The Troutlore Comparadun Deer hair is another step in continually strive to find the best fly tying materials for Australian fly tyers. We are sourcing quality Whitetail Deer from the US and painstakingly going through each hide to get only the best hair for our range. The result is three grades of deer body hair for a range of fly tying purposes that we are confident in offering to your guys. The rest, ends up in the dumps bin, or for use testing dyeing processes. If I wouldnt tie with it myself, I wont let it be sold to you.

The Comparadun Deer Hair is the one we wish we could get more of. It is available in very limited quantities, with some hides not even presenting any hair that suits this purpose. Generally shorter hair, although some patches present with more length, the Comparadun Deer Hair is all about the small stuff. It is very fine hair, with short tips. And thats the key, with the tip section being solid and offering no buoyancy, you need less tip and more hollow hair when tying really tiny flies, like Comparaduns. So. we go through every patch of hair cut from the flanks, shoulders and neck to find the few patches that meet the grade. This option will not always be available, as no matter how many hides we process, we simply cannot guarantee we will get get enough. So, save this stuff for the really essential flies, and stick with the Fine Deer Hair for the slightly larger, yet still small flies.

On a whole, this hair usually presents as a lighter colour to the Select Deer Hair in its natural. This is mostly due to the shorter tips, which reduce the darker shade in the fibers, the hollow section being lighter in tone. We will strive to have a bleached option available for caddis flies, but this will only be possible when stocks allow it.
