Tim Abbott Bamboo Fly Rod 7’6 2/2 #5

Description

A Tim Abbott bamboo fly rod, 7’6″, 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. Medium-fast action. No serial number. 3.1 ounces on my scale. A 2020 date is inked on the rod shaft. Lawn cast condition. The cane is a light wheatstraw color and the nodes are two opposed in a spiral pattern. The nodes are pressed and very small. The main wraps are red with small black edges and all black at the ferrule. Red agate stripper and the snake guides are oxidized and very light wire. The step ferrules are truncated and oxidized with a short collar (please note, both tips are cocked off to the right several degrees near at the ferrule and I would recommend contacting the maker to see about straightening them). The grip is 6 long and composed of 1/4 corks. The grip has a western profile that’s heavily weighted to the front third. The reel seat is spalted maple and appears to have been stabilized. The seat is mortised, and the cap and ring are oxidized with the ring having an unusual feature in that it has been ventilated. The rod packs into a green tie-dye cloth bag (one of the tip pockets has an opening at the bottom which I’d recommend fixing) and an aluminum tube with brass fittings.
