Description
An R.L. Winston bamboo fly rod, 8, 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 or #6 line. Serial #9938. San Francisco era rod, made Sep 15, 1971. 4.1 ounces on my scale. The original owner’s name is inked on the rod. Medium-fast full flexing action. Good overall condition with hand soiling to the grip, ferrule wraps cracks, and minor scuffing to the varnish. Dark tan oven temper cane done in a three-up node pattern. Light tan main wraps (some may have been redone as there is a slight color difference). Maroon edges at the keeper and ferrules. The ferrules are tight fit and the rod is straight. Carbide stripper and chrome snake guides. The grip is 6 1/4 long and shaped to a full wells profile. The reel seat is a black anodized aluminum down lock with an aluminum pocket cap. Birdseye maple insert. The rod packs into a green cloth bag and aluminum tube which has the San Francisco label on it about 75% intact.
