Description
An HL Leonard model 41M-6 bamboo fly rod, 8’6″, 2-piece, 1-tip, and built for a #6 line. Serial #527P. The rod weighs 4.2 ounces on my scale. Medium action. This is the standard blonde oven temper cane model. Early Maxwell period rod with the prototype designation. The rod’s condition is mint with no sign of having been cast. There is still shrink wrap plastic on the grip. Three up node pattern configuration. Honey color main wraps with purple and yellow edges at the keeper, brown at the ferrules with red edges. SRMC #10 stripper and dark snake guides. The step ferrules are oxidized pewter. The grip is 6 1/2″ long with a hidden pocket cap in the heel and is turned down almost to the swell at the top. Uplocking unitary screwlock made of polished aluminum which bears the stamp “The Leonard Rod / HL Leonard Rod Co / Maker” in a cartouche. Mortised varnished maple spacer, the rod comes in a tan non-original bag and a non-original aluminum tube.
