Gary Howells Bamboo Fly Rod 8’9 2/2 #9

Description

A nice Gary Howells bamboo fly rod, 89, 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for #9 line. Serial #4300. The rod weighs 5 ounces. Good overall condition with the grip showing signs of hand soiling, but the rod is pin straight. The action is medium to medium fast. Tan color over tempered cane with darker nodes in a three-up pattern. The varnish is excellent with only a few scratches and scrape marks on the butt, some micro varnish chips and a few fish scales on one of the tips. The main wraps are brown with yellow edges. The stripping guide is carbide with chrome snakes and tip tops. The tips are mirrored. The ferrule fits are good, not too tight, not too loose. The grip is 7 long and shaped to a western profile with a hidden pocket cap for an uplocking seat. The spacer is varnished quartersawn Zebrawood with an aluminum uplocking screw lock. Someone has added a ferrule plug. The rod bag is the usual red cloth and the rod packs into an aluminum tube with Garys data sticker in 100% original condition.
