About the maker:

I’m Fred, the owner and manager of First Cast Flies. I didn’t have the traditional pathway into fly fishing that most do. I started on my own, at 21 years old, having never fished before. I jumped right into fly fishing, and I was adamant that the first fish I caught would be on a fly that I tied, and it was. The learning curve was steep, but my flies and my clients have helped me access new waters and fishing opportunties across the East Coast and expand to saltwater.

In 2021, I officially launched First Cast Flies with just an Instagram page. Within a few months I was making sales across the country and even to my friends at Ahrex hooks across the pond. I’ll never put myself in a box, and I’ll tie everything from nymph boxes to 8/0 Bluewater Tuna flies. I love problem solving; if you’ve got tricky fish to target, I’d love to help you find the right fly to connect with.
