Description

A nice FE Thomas Special bamboo fly rod, 7’6″, 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. Delightful, crisp dry fly action. The rod weighs 3.5 ounces on my scale. The rod appears to be in original condition although the varnish may have been rubbed and polished in the past. The main wraps are brown with a pale green edge at the keeper and male ferrules. 3/7/3/1 signature wraps and three windaways at the male ferrules. Bronze reverse twist snake guides. The step ferrules are polished bright and the tips have the usual long wrap at the top. The grip is 5 1/4″ long with a large cigar profile, and the all-cork seat is 3 1/2″ long. Both have been cleaned, leaving them heavily ridged. The cap and ring are polished and the cap is stamped F.E. Thomas, Special, Bangor, ME and serialized out on the bottom with A545. The rod packs into a green bag and the original aluminum tube with brass fixtures and only about 20% of the original Thomas-Shield decal intact.
