Description
A nice Edward Vom Hofe 423 Restigouche salmon reel in 6/0 size, 4 1/4″ diameter and set up for the traditional RHW. This is a second version Restigouche with the ’79 patent dial adjuster and 7 detent arrowhead under the crank and the raised dome sliding click on the backplate. There is no serial number (which weren’t added until 1908). Excellent overall condition with some minor cosmetic wear only. There is some tarnish on the nickel silver rims in a few places as well as on the foot, but otherwise the reel is very clean. The frame and pillars are in great shape, as are the sideplates and screws. The foot is full length and unmolested. The reel has the ’83 patent date stamp on the oil cap. Mechanically the reel is nice and smooth with a strong drag. This is the original serpentine S-handle style reel and this is a very fine example. The reel comes in an original Vom Hofe leather case, though the facing on the lid has come off (it is tucked inside the case) and there is no strap to be found.
