Description
A Lyle Dickerson 801510 model bamboo fly rod, 8′, 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. The rod weighs 4.3 ounces on my scale. This rod has a slower action, certainly slower than the majority of Dickerson’s. The rod has been refinished and whoever did it did a very nice job and carefully preserved the Dickerson signature on the butt. Agate stripping guide. The snake guides show no sign of brassing and are likely part of the refinish, as the grip has been well-used and the reel seat has signs of use as well. The tip-tops are also not consistent with the original period. The main wraps are light tan with black edges. The step ferrules are oxidized. The grip is 5 1/2″ long, and was originally a full wells but has deteriorated a bit with age. The down lock screw-lock has the large light bulb threads more like F.E. Thomas than most of the Dickerson rods I have seen. The nickel silver pocket cap looks correct to me. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag and the tube looks original but is missing the correct top (some one machined a new top but the threads are not correct as it only goes on about 1/2 turn). Though not a collector-grade Dickerson this rod is still nonetheless a nice opportunity to take fishing, especially for those who generally don’t like very fast action rods.
